Noise-cancelling headphones have become pretty popular over the last decade or so — here’s how they work. The concept actually dates back to 1978 when Dr. Amar Bose, an MIT professor, created the idea on a flight he was on.

Honestly, I thought noise cancelling Headphones literally did JUST that. Didn’t realise you could listen to music and whatever through them at the same time. I thought they were construction workers etc… OK – opinion changed, off to buy a pair…. I really thought all they did was silence what is around you. In hindsight… I was being a bit dumb! Oops!
Noise + phase reversed noise = SILENCE!
